I may have been born long after Indiana Jones debuted on the silver screen, but that didn’t prevent it from being a firm pillar of my childhood.
There’s something so timeless about adventure films; no matter how technologically ‘advanced’ our society becomes, I’m not sure we’ll ever lose our yearning to discover exotic treasures in far flung crypts.
It’s due to this that Indiana Jones has received a number of reboots over the years.
The original trilogy - comprising Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and The Last Crusade - was followed by 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and 2023’s The Dial of Destiny.

As an 11-year-old, I thought Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the best film of all-time.
Clearly, it’s not, but it certainly wasn’t bad, nor was The Dial of Destiny.
Both were fine, I think it’s fair to say, but they didn’t quite reach the heights of recent video game release Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, for me at least.
Perhaps that’s because The Great Circle showed us an Indy in his prime; Harrison Ford did an excellent job in The Dial of Destiny, but you can’t deny that’s an Indiana Jones far past his prime.

It’s with all of this in mind that it looks like Disney is preparing to reboot the franchise in a much larger way compared to those attempts we’ve seen in the past.
According to a report by The DisInsider, an Indiana Jones reboot could be announced as early as next year, 2026.
Lucasfilm is supposedly “letting the franchise rest for a bit before they do a full reboot”.
“I would expect the studio to announce something next year at the D23 Expo because even though the last film tanked at the box office, Indiana Jones is still an iconic IP and Disney/Lucasfilm do not want to waste that,” the report stated.

Harrison Ford is 82, at the time of writing, and would likely be in his mid 80s by the time a hypothetical reboot began filming.
The Dial of Destiny’s underwhelming performance could be due to the fact that the film attempted to give Indy a young new sidekick and successor in the form of Helena Shaw.
Personally, I think MachineGames’ The Great Circle proved that the better idea is to opt for a younger Indy.
Ford’s performance as the character is iconic and always will be, but Troy Baker demonstrated that Indy can still feel like Indy when portrayed by another actor.

It’s due to this that I think we’ll see a recast Indy in the supposed reboot, and many feel the same way I do.
And who do fans reckon Disney could choose to get way more bums on seats this time around? Pedro Pascal.
“We all know what’s coming,” wrote Twitter user aelfred_D, photoshopping Pedro’s face onto an image of Indy.
Look, I know this is partially a joke because Pedro Pascal is the face of every major franchise right now, but I could honestly see this working.

Pedro’s old enough that he’s got that hardened edge that Indy requires, but he’s young enough that the narrative could still put him through his paces physically.
The response to the suggested casting was mixed.
“This actually works amazingly well,” responded RinoTheBouncer.
“Please no,” replied Roybattyforever.
“I am really starting to hate that guy,” said RaithRoguestar. You leave wholesome, kind, talented king Pedro alone.
Other suggestions included Bradley Cooper, Glen Powell, and Chris Pratt.
I’ve got to say, I think Pedro might be my personal pick but Glen Powell could nail it too.
You know what actually, how about Alden Ehrenreich?
Playing Han Solo and Indiana Jones would be both hilarious and incredible.
Of course, we’ll be keeping an eye on any official developments as they emerge.
