Tomb Raider Reboot Game 'Quietly Confirms' Our New Lara Croft

New details emerge.

There is a new rumour surrounding the next Tomb Raider game, and this one could prove to be controversial with fans.

It’s been seven whole years since the last major Tomb Raider game, and I don’t know about you but I can sense everyone getting a little impatient waiting for Lara’s next adventure.

The franchise has been quietly expanding into the world of television over the past few years, with Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft back for a second season this month and a live-action series for Amazon in the works too.

A new announcement also suggests that the next Tomb Raider game may have more connections to the upcoming Amazon series than we previously thought.

As seen on the Story Kitchen website, which is one of the production companies behind Amazon’s Tomb Raider series, the upcoming show will “reinvent the franchise on a massive scale, interconnecting a new live-action television series and video games into a unified storytelling universe.”

From the sounds of it, there may be an attempt to connect the television series with the new “unified timeline” that is being explored for the next video game.

Crystal Dynamics

For the unaware, the Tomb Raider Unified Timeline refers to Crystal Dynamics’ plans for the next game that will unify plot elements from each era of the games: the original series (1996-2003), the Legend trilogy (2006-2008), and the Survivor trilogy (2013-2018).

The idea will be that there will be one singular narrative to follow, rather than multiple different Lara Croft stories existing together.

It sounds like a bit of a headache to do, and that might be why the next game is taking so long to finish.

Lara Croft May be Played by Sophie Turner in The Tomb Raider Games

The Story Kitchen website may have also quietly revealed that Sophie Turner will be playing Lara in the video games in addition to the television series. However, that’s still speculation on our part, and may not be true. She was previously confirmed to be playing the character in the series, but it seems this may also apply to the game.

Previously, Lara Croft was portrayed by Camilla Luddington in the Survivor trilogy, and has been portrayed on-screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander in live-action, and Hayley Atwell in the animated Netflix series.

Turner’s casting has been met with some controversy in the past as fans feel she isn’t a good fit for the role. With Luddington’s portrayal of Lara in the Survivor trilogy being met with lots of praise, it might be that fans aren’t ready to say goodbye to her just yet.
