Tomb Raider players are taken aback by Sophie Turner’s first Lara Croft reveal for the upcoming series on Prime Video.

The Tomb Raider series is, without question, one of the most iconic video game series of all time. It offered a sense of adventure that no game at the time could offer, featuring the globe-trotting explorer, Lara Croft.

As soon as I was introduced to the adventures of Lara Croft on the original PlayStation, exploring lost cities, being chased by a T-Rex, uncovering lost artefacts and gunning down foes with her dual pistols, I knew this would be a series that would be with me for a lifetime.

Like most things in life, the Tomb Raider series has evolved over the years with each new console generation improving on gameplay, visuals, storytelling and the overall sense of adventure. It’s also been passed around with developers and publishers, with each wanting to make their own stamp on the series.

Right now, the series is mainly developed by Crystal Dynamics, whose first game was Tomb Raider: Legend in 2006, and its most recent game is 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the latter of which was the conclusion to the “Survivor Trilogy” which began with a reboot in 2013.

Lara Croft Is the Queen

Now, fans are eagerly waiting for two new games in the series, namely, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which will be the second time the original game has been remade, and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a brand-new adventure that takes place after the events of 2008’s Tomb Raider: Underworld.

The two new Tomb Raider games will also have a new actor playing Lara Croft, namely Alix Wilton Regan, star of Dragon Age and Assassin’s Creed Origins, whom I spoke with at MCM Comic-Con in 2025.

However, that is not all, because we’re getting the aforementioned, live-action series from Amazon, starring Sophie Turner as the charismatic explorer. Sophier Turner originally shot to fame as Sansa Stark in HBO’s adaptation of Game of Thrones.

We’ve now had a whole day to digest our new live-action Lara Croft, and fans have been reacting.

“Our live-action Tomb Raiders,” declared Redditor OhGawDuhhh, sharing images of Angelina Jolie, Alicia Vikander and Sophie Turner.

“Sophie's outfit is the best out of the whole bunch. Even the gloves are the same as the classic gloves, and the sunglasses are just amazing,” exclaimed ErikaNaumann.

“Sophie is like the combination of the first two in looks,” said Wolfvector.

However, as you can imagine, many fans are still all for Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft, and I don’t blame them. I love how Sophie Turner’s version looks old-school and badass, but Jolie is the queen, in my opinion.

“Angelina Jolie was perfect for live-action Lara Croft,” said Lengthiness-Overall.

“Jolie as Lara hands down,” replied Beautifulwldflwr.

At the time of writing, the Tomb Raider series coming to Amazon’s Prime Video does not have a release date, but we’ll keep you posted when we learn more.
