There is a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO but some are concerned about J.K. Rowling’s involvement with the project.

In 2023, the new live-action Harry Potter series was announced and it would be a reboot of the franchise following the movies starring Daniel Radcliffe as the boy who lived. Not much is known about the series yet, but we do know that it will have a modern setting that could influence Hogwarts Legacy 2.

Harry Potter creator and author J.K. Rowling had a direct involvement in the movie franchise. However, that was not the case with 2023’s Hogwarts Legacy due to harmful comments against the trans community.

Naturally, some have wondered whether J.K. Rowling will be involved with the HBO TV series and that was confirmed in an article from Variety by HBO chief Casey Bloys earlier this month stating that she will be “very involved in the process of selecting the writer and the director.”

What’s more, in a statement provided to Variety, a spokesperson for HBO said that the company has “been working with J.K. Rowling and in the Harry Potter business for over 20 years” and “her contribution has been invaluable.”

“J.K. Rowling has a right to express her personal views. We will remain focused on the development of the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement.”

The statement concludes: “J.K. Rowling has a right to express her views. We will remain focused on developing the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement.”

At the time of writing, the cast for the Harry Potter TV show hasn't been officially confirmed nor does it have a release date. That being said, the series is expected to be released sometime in 2026, we’ll keep you posted when we learn more.
