Filming for the Harry Potter reboot is expected to start this summer and despite having no official confirmation of the actors taking on the ironic roles, that has not stopped rumours from swirling online.

Courtesy of HBO, fans of the Harry Potter series are in for a treat as the studio has been awarded the rights to turn the magical movie and book franchise into a television adaptation for the first time.

With Succession’s Francesca Gardiner at the helm as showrunner, Harry Potter is expected to follow The Boy Who Lived once again but with multiple seasons planned, the show will be able to go into more depth than the movies ever could.

Now despite filming expected to begin some time this summer, we are yet to hear any official confirmations about which famous faces will be taking on the roles of both the golden trio and surrounding cast.

However, according to insider DanielRPK, HBO and Warner Bros. are reportedly eyeing up Cillian Murphy to take on the role of Professor Quirrell.

Best known for his roles in Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer, the Oscar-winning actor has previously been rumoured to star as none other than Voldemort himself but as Harry Potter fans will know, Professor Quirrell is the next best thing.

News of this potential casting broke over on r/HarryPotteronHBO this weekend and fans quickly gathered to share their thoughts.

“As much as I’d LOVE him as Voldemort, I can see this too especially if he doesn’t want to commit to multiple seasons,” user rose-haze shared.

Mike13RW added, “Would like to see a young Quirrell as he was written, a young naive talented wizard who was corrupted by Voldemort. But ultimately, Murphy could do any role justice, even Harry.”

However, user theeviloneisyou has more faith in Murphy.

“Playing Quirrell would be a waste of his talent, especially when Ralph Fiennes all but endorsed him as the next Voldemort,” they shared.

With no confirmation from HBO or Murphy himself, this is just a rumour but having Murphy join the cast of Harry Potter would be incredible to say the least.
