As filming on Alex Garland’s Elden Ring gets underway, a major star from HBO’s The Last of Us has been confirmed to join the cast.
A24’s Elden Ring movie has now left pre-production, and commences filming this week.
With Civil War’s Alex Garland set to direct, we’re going to be hearing more casting news come out of the production over the next few weeks.
The cast of Elden Ring currently features Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, and Cailee Spaeny in major roles, and it’s also now been reported that Nick Offerman has joined the cast.
Advert
World of Reel reports that the actor has reunited with Garland for Elden Ring, playing an undisclosed role.
Offerman, best known for his roles in Parks and Recreation and Fargo, made his video game adaptation debut in the first season of HBO’s The Last of Us.

Appearing as apocalypse survivor Bill in the third episode of the first season, "Long Long Time", Offerman won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
More recently, he starred in 2025's Smurfs and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
He's also set to appear in upcoming projects like Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and the AppleTV miniseries, Margo's Got Money Troubles.
Specific roles or plot details have not been confirmed yet by A24 or Garland himself, with much of the film still kept under wraps.
However, leaked set footage released last week seems to imply that the film will be set post-Shattering, and will not be an origin story of the various demigods and immortals that exist in the game’s backstory.
Alex Garland, best known for writing and directing films like Annihilation, Men, and Ex Machina, has been attached to the project since 2025, with the director reportedly having logged 4,000 hours in the game in preparation.
Meanwhile, A24 and Bandai Namco will be co-producing the movie, with Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis listed as producers. The studio is allegedly targeting a 2027 release for the film.
