I know I’m not the only one with very fond memories of Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear To The Rescue. I’ll admit, I was just two years old when the game was released so I can’t claim to have ever completed it but I do remember hijacking my brother’s PlayStation and running around Andy’s bedroom, kitchen and garage. Whether any missions were completed is a mystery I don’t know the answer to, but I had a nice time.
If you’re subscribed to PlayStation Plus’ premium tier, you can actually get your hands on the game. As with any childhood favourite, it's a lot jankier looking than you probably remember. What’s perhaps more exciting though is one fan is currently remastering the game and the results are incredible. This is how I remember Buzz Lightyear To The Rescue in my mind.
Take a look at an incredible Halo recreation of Andy’s bedroom below.
Buzz Lightyear To The Rescue was first released back in 1999 so it’s no surprise that the Traveller’s Tales title is showing its age. YouTuber TheRedSpider is currently in the midst of overhauling the graphics and it may only be a tech demo at this stage but, oh my, I need to play this.

Describing the project, TheRedSpider wrote, “This is a kind of tech demo of the game. I know it isn't a lot, but I barely had time to work on it because of my job and class assignments - but I'm trying to put effort and time in when I can. I'm currently working on the full level with the garage, basement and the kitchen and the objectives, of course. After that, every subsequent level will be released and eventually, I'll make a build of the entire game.”
I’m not the only person feeling a whole lot of nostalgia. One user wrote, “This is dope. I have so many memories playing this as a kid on N64.” Another added, “I’d be willing to shell out full game price for this,” while a different user said, “This is amazing. I was hoping someone would remaster this. The detail outside, even seeing the Pizza Planet truck is great.” Keep up the good work.
