A new Toy Story 5 update has confirmed one character will be recast for the upcoming Disney sequel.

When you think of solid casting choices in animated films, the cast of the Disney Pixar Toy Story films has to be up there.

With a legacy spanning thirty years, the series boasts actors such as Tom Hanks, Wallace Shawn, and even Keanu Reeves playing such iconic characters.

Toy Story 4 from 2019 was the last feature film in the franchise to be released.

As production for the upcoming Toy Story 5 gets underway, a new announcement has revealed that one character in particular will be recast.

It's now been confirmed that Ghostbusters legend Ernie Hudson will replace Carl Weathers in the role of Combat Carl.

Weathers, famous for his roles in films like Rocky and Predator, died in 2024 at the age of 76.

He played Combat Carl in Toy Story OF TERROR! and Toy Story 4, which saw the character join the gang of toys for new adventures.

Hudson, on the other hand, rose to fame playing Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters franchise. Outside of that, he also had prominent roles in The Crow, Miss Congeniality, and the TV series Oz.

In voice acting, Hudson played Grini Millegi in Star Wars: The Bad Batch and also voiced his Ghostbusters character in several spin-off video games.

The sequel also sees the return of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, and it will allegedly focus more on Jessie the Cowgirl. Anna Faris has also been cast in an undisclosed role.

Other Toy Story veterans like John Ratzenberger, Blake Clark, and Joan Cusack are currently unconfirmed, but we should expect news on this to arrive as production continues.

It's being directed by Andrew Stanton, whose Pixar credits include directing WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory.

He also has writing credits on all Toy Story feature films, but Toy Story 5 will be his directorial debut for the franchise.
