'The Last Of Us Part 1' Is Changing The Opinion Of 'Part 2' Haters

The Last Of Us Part I is encouraging players to replay Part II, and they're seeing the game in a new light.

Seeing as The Last of Us Part II is my favourite game, I’m obviously going to support the claim that it’s one of the best games of all time, but I’m not alone. Naughty Dog’s 2020 title is packed with exquisite detail and gripping gameplay, but some fans struggled with its divisive storyline. To call it controversial would be an understatement. That being said, many of those who previously hated Part II are picking the game up again after playing the recently-released The Last of Us Part I, and they’re finding that their opinions have changed.

Check out the trailer for The Last of Us Part I below.

Reddit user replayfaktor took to the site to share just how drastically their opinion of Part II had altered, and it’s not the first time that this has happened. The user wrote: “I couldn't have been more wrong about TLOU2 and I'm glad I was. It's absolutely one of the best games ever made, period. I was among those who jumped on the hate bandwagon upon the revelation that Joel was going to get brutally executed. [...] Fast forward to The Last of Us Part 1, which I beat a few days after its release, and my interest in TLOU2 was instantly revived. TLOU Part 1 was a literal defibrillator and I essentially played TLOU2 non-stop (relatively speaking, as my daily responsibilities permitted lol).”

They continued: “Everything in the game, from the graphics, the combat, the stealth, and most of all the story, turned out to be not only Naughty Dog's finest moment, but one of the proudest moments for the entire video game industry. The nuanced story and how it resolves was nothing short of brilliant. Abby won me over as one of the best fictional characters ever created. She's so flawed and so full of heart, goes around doing her thing like the terminator but at the same time [is] deeply human. Ellie almost felt like the villain at the end of it all, and had she actually killed Abby, there would've been no debate. To me, Abby was the real star and hero of this game.”

The user wasn’t alone in their thoughts. FinancialSystem1025 wrote “same”, which is, um, short, but to the point. Others deemed the post a “interesting and refreshingly honest perspective”. I’m sure Part II still has its detractors though but hey, we’re all entitled to an opinion.
