Great news! We know how big the map for The Witcher 4 will be!
Bad news! It’ll be the same size as the map in The Witcher 3. Booooo.
Wait, back to the good news! The fans are good with that! Probably because the map in The Witcher 3 was bloody massive!

This news comes directly from The Witcher 4’s game director, CD Projekt RED’s Sebastian Kalemba, who revealed the information in an interview with Skill Up on the Friends Per Second podcast.
“The map is definitely more or less when it comes to size, the amount of quests, more or less the same”, Kalemba revealed.
“Again, the game is going to be big. But also, the ambition of the entire team is huge. So first and foremost, we want to deliver a super compelling experience.”
So, isn’t that a bad thing? More map means more stuff. We all love more stuff, no?

Well, according to the fans over in a thread on the r/witcher subreddit, no, actually.
“Honestly? That's good. It allows the studio to put more effort into designing each location instead of just making it bigger just to be "better" than the previous game”, commented user Livek_72.
“I just hope we get a different variety than the third game, though I would miss skellige. Just leave Temeria behind for god's sake lol.”
“I don't have a problem with that at all. Witcher 3's map was a very good size without being too overwhelming”, replied user MakaveliTheDon22.

“Bigger doesn't always mean better, and seeing how they said they want side quests to be more involved and engaging I think that leaves less room for filler.”
Definitely on board with the commenters on this one, because it definitely sounds like a quality over quantity thing.
I don’t think I’m the only one who hates the Ubisoft approach to filling open worlds with a billion markers, most of which are simply collectables or pointless excursions. A leaner, but stronger approach to the content contained within The Witcher 4’s map sounds way, way better to me.
