My backlog never appears to ease. For every game I play, a further two get thrown on the heap.

It may be something to do with the fact that I will hoard free games like a gremlin.

After all, you just never know what future you is going to want to play.

Well, if you share my adoration for all things free, you may be interested to learn that PC storefront Steam has added four new free games to its roster.

As always, thanks to SteamGamesPC for bringing these to our attention.

A Platformer, Horror, Hidden Object Game, and Narrative Adventure Await

Let’s begin with what could be the best of the bunch, as Melon Man has already secured a very respectable score of 90% from players, correct at the time of writing.

Developed and published by Blomma Games, this one’s a pixel art precision platformer where you’ll traverse your way from A to B whilst avoiding obstacles and collecting melons.

It’s one for fans of Mario’s 2D entries, boasting a somewhat similar aesthetic and formula.

As I said, Melon Man has secured a 90% rating and admittedly, I can see why. It does look incredibly moreish.

“Pretty good game so far, excited to see where it's going,” wrote one player, while another added, “Very good. Can't wait for level six to be playable and rest of the levels.”

It sounds as if more levels are being added in due course.

If you prefer horror games, you may want to check out foolkiien’s Channel 4 Midnight which is currently sitting at another strong rating of 89%.

This one’s a “bite-sized psychological horror game about a wayward soul who seeks transformation through a sinister ritual”.

It only takes around 20 minutes to complete and is told from a first-person perspective.

By the sounds of it, you’ll need to do some light puzzle solving but mainly, this is a narrative-driven experience.

“A very jarring experience from start to finish. I wasn't aware of what to expect going in, but I was certainly changed drastically by the end of it. Very eerie and unsettling imagery and atmosphere, with an even more unsettling plot,” states one review. That’s got my attention.

For those who enjoy the hidden object genre, Escape Games World vs Escapers has landed from HFG Entertainments Private Limited.

I won’t beat around the brush. This one looks like AI slop and Steam’s disclaimer confirms as much.

For me, that makes it a no go, but if you don’t care and want to work through 95 escape rooms, this experience is there for the taking.

Let’s get back on track with the final offering, RK Override.

This is an “hour-long fully voiced interactive narrative” that follows “Chimera, a Mecha Captain fighting in an endless war for their country’s future”.

“Fight for control against your Mecha’s AI copilot (RK System) as you attempt to end the conflict - no matter the cost,” teases the synopsis.

It’s from developer Kinetic Magic and I have to say, the trailer looks very promising.

There’s no review score yet but early thoughts are trickling in.

“Rough around the edges sure, but it feels like it has something it wants to say which I am all for,” one player wrote.

Another said, “This game managed to resonate with me, which is very, very rare to see happen. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and recommend it.”

All four options are available to enjoy on PC now.
