Steam has dropped four free bangers that you can download and play today, no questions asked. So, what are you waiting for?
In this day and age, it feels like a constant uphill struggle being able to buy the latest video game releases, no matter our platform of choice. Especially with hardware and subscription service prices on the rise.
Thankfully, there are not only a plethora of fantastic free-to-play games to check out, that are regularly supported with content updates, such as Fortnite, Rocket League and Call of Duty: Warzone, but there are also tons of other, more obscure fun games to play, that might have flown under our radar.
One place where you can find tons of free games to play is the PC platform, Steam. Granted, there are a lot of gamers that aren't perhaps worth your attention, but equally, many are.

The Steam community helps us identify the good from the bad, with their user reviews and with that in mind, courtesy of the Twitter account, ‘Free Steam Games’, we have some recommendations for you.

The first free Steam game that might tickle your fancy is WithIN, developed and published by Team.VERI-. It kind of looks like a combination of Little Nightmares and Inside. It had charming, dreamy visuals, a cosy soundtrack and by the looks of its trailer, plenty of exploration and puzzle solving. At the time of writing, taken from 15 user reviews, WithIN has a “Positive” rating.

Next up, we have the sandbox adventure, Ecto, developed and published by Dez Boyle. It looks like it’s one for fans of the platforming genre and parkour action. In Ecto, levels are randomised, so no playthrough will be the same, and it also encourages speed running, for you competitive gamers out there. From 2025 user reviews at the time of writing, Ecto has a “Very Positive” rating.

If you’ve ever wanted to play games like League of Legends or Dota, but want something a lot more casual and cosy, then look no further than Tales of Terrarum (nothing to do with the Bandai Namco series), developed by Electric Soul and published by CYSTUDIO. Tales of Terrarum looks like a blend of Ni no Kuni with its visuals, and Stardew Valley with its enticing sim world that encourages crafting, building and exploration. With some combat thrown in for good measure. Right now, Tales of Terrarum is rated “Very Positive” from 106 user reviews.

Finally, if you’re a fan of Genshin Impact and Final Fantasy Tactics, then AFK Journey, developed and published by Farlight Games, might be worth your attention. With visuals presented as a gorgeous, illustrated storybook with fun, magical combat, card battle mechanics and plenty of secrets to discover, AFK Journey might just be the sleeper hit of this article, as reflected by its “Very Positive” rating from 435 user reviews.
So, there you have it, those are four free Steam games that you can download and play today. Hopefully, you’ll have a blast with at least one of the above.
