The Witcher 3 first-person mode will completely change your experience

The Witcher 3 first-person mode will completely change your experience

It's time to get up close and personal

With every RPG release comes the argument about which is better: first-person or third-person? Although The Witcher 3 falls under the latter category, one free download means we can finally get the best of both worlds.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt tells us the story of Geralt of Rivia and his surrogate daughter Ciri, both of which we control via a third-person view. Whether we are just walking around the expansive map, riding our horse Roach or engaging in combat, we get a pretty clear view of the whole scene.

However, for those who prefer a first-person view in their RPGs, this video gives us a sneak peek at what it could look like for the CD Projekt Red title.

Created by AKBULUT, this “fully modded first person gameplay experience” for The Witcher 3 shows us what the much-loved title could look like if it was in first-person.

Featuring the opening area of the game, White Orchard, we get to see the map in a whole new light as Geralt rides around on Roach, takes out a few bandits and then continues on his merry way.

As beautiful as this video looks, it is worth noting that as well as using the first-person mod, the creator also uses 29 other mods so be aware that unless you also download the entire list, your game won’t look as good as this.

However, with CD Projekt Red’s other hit title, Cyberpunk 2077 being in first-person, it remains to be seen if The Witcher 4 will follow suit in the future. Either that or a useful switch will always be appreciated by fans (if it’s done well).

For now, fans are happy enough with this first-person mod with one saying: “I use this mod and walking through the swamps, cruising the Novigrad streets or creeping through a dark forest all feels amazing and looks incredible. To this day there is nothing else like it.”
