The Last of Us’ Clicker girl is going to give us nightmares for many years to come.

The Last of Us’ Clicker girl is going to give us nightmares for many years to come.

Over the weekend, we were treated to the fifth and quite possibly, the most intense episode of The Last of Us TV series from HBO yet. Now, before we proceed, this article will contain spoilers. However, you have no doubt already seen a spoiler in the heading. So, here we are.

There was a lot going on in episode five “Endure and Survive”. For starters, we got our first proper look at the giant Clicker known as the Bloater. However, despite this brutal goliath ripping someone’s head off, it wasn't the most memorable monster of the show.

The star of the show was a nightmare fuelled Clicker girl, something that we had not seen in the Naughty Dog video game series. When we first saw this Clicker girl, it was a “is that, yes, that’s a Clicker girl” moment.

This miniature Clicker then chased Ellie into an abandoned car twisting her contorted body to fit through the tiniest gaps with a sinister amount of ease. I never thought that the Clickers could get any scarier, so hats off to Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin.

The girl that played this sinister Clicker was nine-year-old, Skye Cowton. As reported by Slashfilm.com, Mazin relived the audition of Cowton and how she quickly won the makers of the HBO series over.

“Plenty of audition tapes were received, featuring lots of highly-skilled contortionist kids. But [Cowton] was the most terrifying,” explained Mazin.

The co-producer of the HBO series continued: “It was so creepy that they had no choice but to hire her. Once they married her natural skill with the magic of post-production, poor Kathleen (the Melanie Lynskey character who the clicker eventually feasts on) didn't stand a chance.”

In related news, we spoke to the voice of Tommy from the video game series, Jeffrey Pierce on the possibility of the character's return in The Last of Us: Part 3 as well as the actor's role in the HBO adaptation.

The Last of Us TV series airs every Sunday on HBO Max in the US and every Monday on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
