Despite receiving four nominations across various categories at The Game Awards 2025, one hit release has been snubbed for Game of the Year and fans are less than pleased.

Last night saw Geoff Keighley grace our screens once again to reveal the final nominations for The Game Awards 2025 which is set to take place on 11 December.

Showcasing the best and biggest games of 2025, the event is just weeks away but we now know which titles will be nominated for each category, as well as now being able to vote for our favourites.

However, fans of one hit 2025 title cannot help but notice its snub in the main category of the night: Game of the Year.

I am of course talking about Split Fiction, the action-adventure multiplayer title released by Hazelight Studios back in March.

Despite receiving four nominations including Best Game Direction, Best Multiplayer, Best Action/Adventure Game, and Best Family Game, Split Fiction missed out on a nomination for the coveted Game of the Year.

Fans are not happy

As a result, fans have been taking to social media to share their disappointment.

“Split Fiction not being nominated for game of the year is insane!” One user expressed.

“Donkey Kong over Split Fiction? Are you kidding me?!! Split Fiction was such a love letter to games and a true return to co-op gaming.”

Another agreed, adding, “Split Fiction did things with gameplay I never seen done before so I think it not being nominated is crazy.”

“Just found out Split Fiction wasn’t nominated for Game of the Year, which is crazy,” another user shared.

“You turn into a hotdog in that game.”

Split Fiction was definitely one of the biggest snubs of the evening, especially according to our very own Kate Harrold and Sam Cawley who played the co-op game together earlier this year.

“It’s a triumphant tour de force that aims to be so much, from a commentary on the state of the creative arts to a love letter to gaming, and manages to succeed in every area,” their review read.

“I’d even go as far as saying it’s now firmly one of my all-time favourite games, and there’s little praise higher than that.”

So if you are also disappointed about the Split Fiction snub, make sure you at least vote for it to win in its relevant categories ahead of The Game Awards next month.
