Typically, The Game Awards run for around three to three and a half hours, although some shows have come closer to four hours. The event begins with its opening act, which usually lasts around 30 minutes and features awards, announcements and musical performances before the main show begins.

The main show usually lasts around two and a half hours, with the final ‘Game of the Year’ award followed by one last world premiere or reveal to close out the show. Let’s just hope we don’t get another Highguard, which was an underwhelming final reveal to close out last year’s ceremony.

When will The Game Awards 2026 nominees be announced?

No date has been announced for when The Game Awards 2026 nominees will be revealed, but they’re expected to be announced around mid-November. As soon as the nominees are officially confirmed, we’ll update you and link out to our comprehensive coverage.

Once the nominations are announced, public voting is also expected to open. The public fan vote contributes 10% towards the final decision, with the remaining 90% decided by the selected panel of industry voters.

As for what could be nominated for the Game of the Year Award, we can only speculate for now. 2026 has been a stellar year for video game releases, which opens the door for plenty of potential winners. It could be GTA 6, Resident Evil Requiem, Crimson Desert, Control Resonant, Phantom Blade Zero or something else entirely. Only time will tell.

We’ll update this guide as soon as the nominees are officially announced in November.
