Elder Scrolls 6 Gets Todd Howard Update, GTA 6 Delay Looks Tame

Don't count on seeing it soon.

The Elder Scrolls 6 has just received a new development update, and it’s not one you’re going to want to hear.

Announced way back in 2018, fans of the franchise have been waiting with bated breath for a crumb of information regarding the upcoming sequel.

As we’re quickly approaching the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim next year, there was hope that news regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 could land at some point before then.

Well, we have had an update, but it might not be the one you want to hear. Bethesda’s own Todd Howard has now confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still “a long way off”.

Speaking to GQ, Howard said the game is “still a long way off”, and adds “I’m preaching patience. I don’t want fans to feel anxious.”

“I do like to have a break between them, where it isn’t like a “plus one” sequel,” he continues later on in the interview. “I think it’s also good for an audience to have a break – The Elder Scrolls has been too long, let’s be clear. But we wanted to do something new with Starfield. We needed a creative reset.”

Howard also noted how “I like to just announce stuff and release it. My perfect version – and I’m not saying this is going to happen – is that it's going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear".

The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a ways off

So, yeah it sounds like we’re going to be waiting a while longer for The Elder Scrolls 6. At the moment, we still don’t really have any solid details about where the game will be set, what kind of quests are going to be featured, or if there will be any dramatic changes compared to Skyrim.

However, it’s also entirely possible Howard could be bluffing. He finishes the GQ interview by not entirely ruling out a shadow-drop for The Elder Scrolls 6, as Bethesda had done earlier this year for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

“You might say that was a test run. It worked out well,” he concluded.

Frustratingly, we may have no option other than to just sit and wait. One thing’s for certain though, if GTA 6 fans were upset by the extra six-month wait for the game to release, The Elder Scrolls 6 makes it look tame in comparison.
