The Elder Scrolls 6 Launch Window Surfaces, Further Away Than We Thought

It's never coming out is it?

The Elder Scrolls VI is still years out from the sound of things and the latest leaked launch windows tell us just how much.

Bethesda has been surprisingly open about the development of The Elder Scrolls VI as of late, but to be fair it’s been pretty hard to shy away from given how much press has been done for the second season of Fallout.

So far we’ve had the notion teased that The Elder Scrolls VI could be shadow-dropped in the same way The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was. That’s a terrifying thought but it would be a historic moment.

The game is clearly nowhere near that stage though yet, and Bethesda exec Todd Howard has said that as much as the team would like to speed up development they’re committed to getting it right. That’s great news especially since Starfield felt underbaked.

Unsurprisingly Bethesda still hasn’t given a release window but the latest word on the street says we shouldn’t expect the game until 2028, or 2029 at a push.

This comes from Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly on X, and it should go without saying to take it with a bit of salt.

Reece posted a tweet that read: “You are not seeing Elder Scrolls 6 till 2028 at the earliest but there’s a high probability that it comes out in 2029.

“They aren’t giving a rough date because quite frankly it will do more harm than good especially after announcing this game too early, personally at this stage I believe it’s going to suffer Metroid Prime 4’s fate. Will sell well but won’t get critical acclaim and be divisive.”

Honestly a 2028 release date sounds more than plausible at this point. This was announced all the way back in 2018 and we still haven’t seen an in-game screenshot.

While it’s definitely not in development hell it’s pretty clear that Bethesda wants to ensure it’s in the best shape it can be, so we’re not going to see it until the team is ready to show it.

I think Grand Theft Auto VI also has a big role to play. GTA VI is one of the few games that could actually compete with The Elder Scrolls VI and for the longest time its release date was up-in-the-air.

Even after getting one it’s been delayed twice so no wonder other studios are reluctant to provide release dates and windows.
