The Batman director Matt Reeves has reiterated that his new superhero flick is only the beginning of a much larger DC universe. Because if Marvel has taught us anything, it's that we have to do interconnected movie franchises from now until we're all dead.
To be fair to Reeves, he's already ruled out introducing the likes of Superman and Justice League into his dark and gritty reboot. For now, he intends to focus on the residents and villains of Gotham City across a handful of spinoff shows
DC and Warner Bros. have already confirmed two The Batman spinoffs for HBO Max. Gotham PD is shaping up to be a crime drama about the police corruption in Gotham City, while Penguin will chart Oswald Cobblepot's (Collin Farrell) rise to power in the Gotham underworld.

But Reeves has now suggested there's a third series in the works that will focus on Arkham Asylum, the psychiatric hospital where the vast majority of Batman's rogue's gallery go to stay after they're done playing with him.
"We're doing this Penguin series and one of the great things about that is Colin Farrell - he's like you've never seen him. He's so incredible and he's a scene-stealer. Along the way, we thought maybe we could do [Penguin] as a series," Reeves told The Toronto Sun.
"So I talked to HBO Max and showed them Colin in the movie and spoke to them about what this could be and they said, 'Let's do it.' So we're doing that and we're doing another series that connects to Arkham [Asylum]. We are talking and thinking about the next movie, but to be honest with you, at the moment, I really want the audience to connect with this. And I really believe they will because I think Rob is an incredible Batman."
Clearly it's early days for the mystery Arkham project, but it sounds like a great opportunity for Reeves to really dig into some of Batman's stranger foes. Give me Calendar Man creeping everyone the F out and I'll be happy.
