In a move that will surprised nobody, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that a sequel to The Batman is in development.
Director Matt Reeves' gritty, brutal, and surprisingly heartfelt take on the classic DC superhero was a critical and commercial smash, so it's no major shock to learn that Warner Bros. has already lined up the sequel.
Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich announced the sequel at CinemaCon 2022, revealing that Reeves would return to direct. Robert Pattinson will be back as Batman, of course. Zoë Kravitz is also set to reprise her role as the favourite villain/hero (depending on the circumstances) Catwoman.

While plot details have yet to be confirmed, Reeves said that we'd learn more “in a CinemaCon to come". For now we can assume that Colin Farrell's Penguin will make a return. I'd also imagine that Paul Dano's Riddler and Barry Keoghan's Joker will feature in some capacity, even if they aren't the big bads of the movie.
As for who, exactly, the main antagonist of The Batman 2 could be? If I had to put money on it, I'd say that the Court Of Owls will finally make their big screen debut.
For those not immersed in Batman lore, the Court Of Owls is a shadowy criminal organisation that has been ruling Gotham in secret for centuries. Both Reeves and Pattinson have expressed their love of these bad guys in the past, and they'd honestly be a perfect fit for this new version of Batman. Watching Pattinson's Dark Knight attempting to get to the heart of a centuries-old criminal organization while fighting off expert assassins with Kravitz's Catwoman? I'll buy my ticket right now, thank you.
