How much would you pay for a video game? $40? $60? $70? Of course price is relative to how much you personally can afford but most people, I imagine, would tap out once the figure hits triple digits - and that’s only if it was like, really good, game of the decade type stuff.

Now, Tekken 2 is a pretty good game. Or it was when it was first released way back in 1995 for the original PlayStation. If you’re asking me my opinion, I’d be telling you that Tekken 3 was better, but each to their own. A great beat-em-up with a kangaroo and a velociraptor as unlockable characters, there’s no doubt that Tekken 2 slapped. But under no circumstances, would I ever pay just shy of $10,000 for it on the PS Plus Store. Sony has some explaining to do.

Did you know there was a Tekken anime series coming to Netflix? Yes indeed! Tekken Bloodline will be with us later this year.

As reported by IGN, Tekken 2 was indeed accidentally (allegedly) listed for $9,999 on the PlayStation Plus Store over in the states. That’s around £8,200 for us in merry old England. The fumble happened when the new PS Plus tiers were implemented by Sony in the last couple of days.

Indeed, the listing was corrected quicksharp, but not before a number of Twitter users noticed the price hike. The creator of Tekken, Kitsuhiro Harada, even hopped on the bandwagon to show his approval. “WHAT A MARVELOUS PRICE SONYYYYYYYY,” he wrote.

Classic titles like Tekken 2 have been added to the new PS Plus Store for subscribers of the Premium tier to enjoy as part of the Classic Game Catalogue. As IGN pointed out rather amusingly, the game isn’t available to actually buy on PS4 and PS5.

It’s not clear if anybody was actually able to buy it at this price, or if they’d get a refund if they did. You’d hope so. But then maybe, as some Twitter users pointed out, somebody might do it simply for the clout of having done it. I can think of better ways to spend 10 grand than on a 27 year old game but, you do you huns.
