We’re on the final countdown. The release of FIFA 23 is mere days away and there’s a lot to be excited about from the career mode overhaul to the inclusion of the first ever female cover star. It’s also the end of an era. As I’m sure you’re aware, FIFA 23 is the last game to use FIFA branding before the franchise becomes EA Sports FC. One thing you may not know is that FIFA 23 looks set to feature a number of unexpected crossovers. There’s the Marvel Heroes campaign, and now it looks like a certain fictional sports coach may also be making an appearance.

Check out the trailer for FIFA 23 below.

That’s right. It looks like Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond could be heading to FIFA 23. The rumour began last week when the fictional team briefly appeared on EA’s FIFA ratings database but they were later swiftly removed. As always, we have to remain wary until anything is officially confirmed, but this would be an odd mistake to make if AFC Richmond aren’t actually set to appear in FIFA 23.

Now, the theory seems more likely than ever. The official Ted Lasso Twitter account has released a photo of the titular coach surrounded by cameras, and it sure does look like he’s being scanned for a video game. The tweet reads, “Look out, Mario! You're not the only pixelated man with a moustache who never knows where the tube is taking him.”

Given the imminent release of FIFA 23, we won’t have to wait very long to find out what this is all leading towards.
