The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is looking like the start of Nintendo’s cinematic universe, after the last character you’d have expected joined the film’s cast.
Fox McCloud, AKA Star Fox, was revealed in all of his glory yesterday as one of the new characters joining Mario, Peach, Luigi and friends on their upcoming intergalactic adventure.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie blasts its way into cinemas on 1 April, and will follow the Mushroom Kingdom’s finest on another quest to save the world from Bowser, who’s joined by his son Bowser Jr.
This time the stakes are even higher though as Bowser is setting his sights on the entire galaxy as his new empire, but fortunately Mario and co. have help.

In addition to Star Fox, Rosalina, Yoshi and possibly other mystery characters will join the fray, and with Fox’s inclusion fans are all thinking the same thing; a Super Smash Bros Cinematic Universe is forming.
Eagle-eyed fans caught a glimpse of Fox in one of the trailers prior to his big reveal, and now they’re adamant that Illumination and Nintendo have confirmed his inclusion to hide another fan-favourite Nintendo character’s existence in the film.

The predominant theory right now is that none other than Kirby will show up somewhere in the film, and honestly it’s not as far-fetched as it sounds.
Super Mario Galaxy, both the games and the film, is all about venturing out into the cosmos and checking out some bizarre planets, which is why Star Fox’s inclusion makes so much sense.
Kirby does too as he of course resides on Planet Popstar, which could absolutely be a location in the film, or at least one that’s either briefly shown or mentioned by name.
Whether there’s a larger role in mind for the pink puff-ball or a two-minute cameo Kirby is definitely in the film, mark my words. Hell, maybe even Samus Aran from Metroid will pop-up in the background, or be mentioned in an anecdote by Fox. Honestly the sky is the limit at this point.
Despite not being confirmed, Nintendo and Illumination will have definitely had talks regarding a wider universe of Nintendo IPs, possibly all colliding into one big Super Smash Bros Movie.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie lands in cinemas on 1 April, which is only a few days away. Regardless of whether the film is good or not, that post-credit scene is going to hit different if it’s going where we think it is.
