The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming next year and will be Mario's third big-screen appearance. Yes you heard me, third, lest we forget the infamous live-action Super Mario Bros (1993).
Chris Pratt’s take on the character will be rocketing off into space on an adventure that’s seemingly taking a lot of inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, both of which were re-released on the Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year.
Only a small teaser for the film has been shown but now a fresh leak comes from an unlikely place, cookie dough.
The Pillsbury Super Mario Galaxy Shape Sugar Cookie Dough was spotted on an online retailer in the U.S and while you can’t purchase it right now it’s given away two major plot points from the upcoming film.
“Ayy It’s Me, Yoshi”
As you’ll see from the packing we’ve got our first look at Yoshi, the Yoshi which isn’t to be confused with other beings of the same species, who are also called Yoshi. It’s very confusing.
Advert
The green version of Yoshi we’ve all come to know and love was teased in the post-credit scene of The Super Mario Bros Movie and will be joining Mario on his quest across the stars. This is directly inspired by Super Mario Galaxy 2, which Yoshi starred in as a glorified power-up for Mario in various levels.

We don’t know who’ll voice the character or if he’ll even have a voice at all. Personally I’d be happy with Universal reusing voice lines from the games rather than attach a celebrity to the role.
Also seen on the packaging is the Comet Observatory. This is a hub area in Super Mario Galaxy as well as Rosalina’s starship, which Mario fuels with Power Stars to cross the universe and save Princess Peach.
Clearly Rosalina will star in the film but again we don’t know who’ll play her, though I’m sure Nintendo fans out there have their favourites.
Obviously none of this was supposed to see the light of day this early, as the film isn’t due out until next year.
It’s also far too early to critique anything regarding the film, but for now it looks promising and I’m sure it’ll be a quality flick much like the last one.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will launch into cinemas on 3 April 2026, and we’re looking forward to it.
