This once-hyped first-person shooter just added an exciting new update that looks to be adding the one thing the game truly needed: zombies.
Does anyone else remember when that first gameplay trailer for Bodycam dropped, way back in September 2023? I remember it very well, because the internet would not shut up about it for weeks.
The hyper-realistic, heightened nature of the gunplay tricked a fair chunk of people into thinking that it was actually real footage being passed off as gameplay, and given how incredible it looked. It’s easy to see how some were fooled.
But then, something odd happened; Bodycam released into Early Access on Steam in June 2024, and suddenly the hype disappeared overnight. So, what happened? Why did all that excitement dissipate unceremoniously once the game actually released?

Well, it’s a tale as old as time; an Unreal Engine 5 game that looked incredible finally came out, only for gamers to discover that its performance was absolutely terrible.
Now, to be fair to the devs behind Bodycam, the game has drastically improved in that department since then. And, y’know, this is an Early Access game we’re talking about here, so nobody should have expected it to be perfect on day one.
In fact, the game has improved so much that it’s jumped up to a “Very Positive” rating on Steam– a far cry from the “Mixed” score that it earned during its immediate release.
The devs at Reissad Studio also seem committed to continuously updating the game, and even recently announced that a “Major” update for Bodycam is inbound.

The Halloween update for Bodycam dropped at the end of last month, and added a new The Last of Us-style “Zombie Mode” to the game that, frankly, looks absolutely horrifying. It's almost like Left 4 Dead is back with a vengeance.
As the devs explain in their latest Steam community post, they’ve decided to expand their one-off Halloween update into something much bigger.

“The Halloween Update has grown far beyond its initial scope, and will now become a Major Update”, Reissad Studio noted in their update post.
“What started as a themed patch turned into something much larger: a foundation for the future of Bodycam. It’s not just about adding a new map or fixing a few long-awaited issues. It’s about building the base that will allow the game to reach its full potential.”
Hopefully the new update can revitalise the ever-dwindling playerbase (based on the roughly 300 concurrent daily players the game currently has), because I think the devs might have something special on their hands once Bodycam fully leaves Early Access (whenever that may be).
