New 'Starfield' Video Shows What Could Be Our First Look At Gameplay

We might have just got our first look at Starfield's gameplay in the latest episode of Into the Starfield on Bethesda's YouTube channel.

Who here is excited for Starfield? Given you clicked on this, I’m going to assume you are, and so you should be. Bethesda’s upcoming RPG, which is the team’s first new game universe in 25 years, is set to offer double the amount of dialogue that Skyrim has, and will also reportedly have dozens of planets bigger than the entirety of Skyrim’s world. Quite chunky, then.

Everything we’ve heard about it sounds great (for everyone except PlayStation users, of course), but so far, we’ve not actually seen any gameplay. That is, until now, as it seems we might have got our first tiny glimpse, hidden in a new episode of Into the Starfield on Bethesda’s YouTube channel.

Check out the video below, complete with what appears to be a snippet of Starfield gameplay footage.

Did you catch that? I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t, it’s quite brief. Around the three and a half minute mark, we see a robot on screen, who seems to turn towards an approaching player. At this time, it’s not known for sure whether or not this was actual gameplay footage or just CGI - GAMINGbible reached out to Bethesda, but have not yet received confirmation.

Other than that though, the team also said some interesting things during the course of the video, leaving us with a few tantalising hints of what the game might have to offer when it releases later this year.

“A lot of us have been doing this for a long time together, and it’s nice with Starfield to go back to some things we didn’t do - the backgrounds, the traits, defining your character, all those stats,” said Todd Howard, game director. “I think there’s so many games now that do those things, that people are ready for something that does a lot of the things that older hardcore RPGs, something we used to do, doing those again in a new way.”

Last month, it was revealed that Xbox boss Phil Spencer is hoping that Starfield will be even more popular than Skyrim. Given that the latter sold 30 million copies as of 2016, that’s a very big goal - especially given that Starfield is releasing exclusively on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Maybe if it also gets over 10 years of re-releases, it’ll eventually catch up, though.
