Starfield will be a 'modder's paradise', Todd Howard confirms

Bethesda chief Todd Howard confirms Starfield will be a 'modders paradise'.

Starfield isn't even out yet and for a game that promises so much, its community looks set to make it bigger and better.

After years of being in development, the release of Bethesda’s massive sci-fi RPG is nearly upon us and the hype is said to be at such a high level, Starfield is single-handedly convincing gamers to buy an Xbox Series X|S. There’s no telling how much life a game such as Starfield will have in it. Offering a massive galaxy with over 1,000 planets, character creation, immersive story missions, the ability to build your own spaceship and base, and so much more, Starfield could end up keeping us busy for years to come.

You only have to look at Bethesda’s other mammoth RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Sure, this game was initially released back in 2011 and has seen countless ports, but one of the main reasons this fantasy RPG has had so much life is due to its passionate modding community. And it seems that Starfield will be no exception.

As reported by GamesRadar, when speaking to Kinda Funny Games, Bethesda chief Todd Howard claimed that Starfield will be a “modder’s paradise”.

“I think Starfield’s going to be a modder’s paradise,” said Howard. “It’s part of our DNA here – we’ve been doing it for over 20 years. Our community around that – because look, we’ve usually been classically single-player. That’s been our community, and people are still modding our games and playing them. So we’re doing a lot of it, and I think one of the things I’ll call out is that it’s not just important for us to enable that, but to participate, right? To make it easy for them, to make this not just a hobby but a career. We’ve had a lot of great success there.”

In related news, Todd Howard has recently revealed that only 10% of Starfield’s 1,000 planets will have life, and Skyrim Grandma says she has no interest in playing the upcoming sci-fi RPG.

Starfield will be released on 6 September 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. It will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, which will soon have a price hike.
