Starfield is bringing back The Elder Scrolls' worst NPC

He's back.

Starfield is bringing back one of the most iconic and easily the most infuriating characters in The Elder Scrolls universe. Really, I wasn't wholly sure we were in the bad place but this news has now cemented my conclusions.

At the moment, Starfield is "Skyrim in space." Oh, I'm not trying to detract from the game in any way with those words - that's a direct quote from Bethesda boss Todd Howard. However, the team have a clear vision with the sprawling sci-fi RPG in that everything should have a sense of ruggedness, of being lived in, something à la "NASA punk."

Check out the trailer for Starfield below!

Published on 11 October, this new interview with Todd Howard covers everything from inspirations to the immense number of dialogue lines in Starfield. He also dove into the character customisation options, and something called Traits. These Traits offer the player gameplay advantages and disadvantages which is familiar to those who have dabbled in Bethesda games before. For example, there's one called "Hero Worshipped" which means that the central character has "earned the attention of an annoying 'Adoring Fan.'"

He's back. The Adoring Fan is a Bosmer NPC in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion sporting a luminous crop of yellow hair and an unfaltering smile. He'll follow you constantly complimenting the Hero of Kvatch, winding you up to no end. Seriously, no end. If he dies, he'll somehow show up a few in-game days later to throw bouquets at you again.

Fortunately in Starfield, this iteration of the Adoring Fan will give the player gifts as well as "jabber incessantly" so I suppose that's an improvement. I like the sound of the "Serpent's Embrace" Trait too, which requires the player grav-jump continually or else they'll lose health and endurance.
