Stardew Valley players are only just discovering one of the cutest mechanics in the game, even after some of them have invested hundreds of hours into it already.
This might be difficult for people to envision if they have only gotten around to playing it in the last couple of years, but the Stardew Valley I played back in 2016 is nothing like the Stardew Valley we have today.
So much new stuff has been added to this game over the years (completely for free, I might add) that I think someone replaying the game for the first time in nine years wouldn’t even know where to start.
There are some obvious big additions, like multiplayer support and entire new areas like Ginger Island, but the sheer number of stuff ConcernedApe has added is borderline impossible to sum up.

Farm maps, buildings like the shed and the mill, 14-heart events, the ability to divorce your spouse, events like the Night Market and the Desert Market, and probably over a thousand new items– all stuff that wasn’t there when the game first released.
That’s why it’s understandable that a lot of people miss certain additions when a new Stardew Valley update drops, because there’s simply too much to keep up with as it is already.
Turns out, a lot of people completely missed one of the most adorable new mechanics that got added in the 1.6 update for the game: customisable fishing lures.

If you head on over to Willy’s shack, there’s a little machine in there that lets you alter your fishing bob to whichever ones you’ve managed to unlock so far. According to the comments on this post over on the r/StardewValley subreddit, this addition completely passed hundreds of people by.
It's easy to miss, it seems
“WHAT!? Almost 400 hours played and I had literally no idea this was a thing!!! Thanks OP!” commented user Roobaarb.
“Just found out last night myself, flabbers have been gasted,” replied user goosedude117.

“I have easily a hundred hours into this game and I just discovered it last week as well, lol. I love that this game has so many things to discover,” commented user Secret-Bandicoot-759.
Also, as the top comment points out, here’s a fun tip: if you hit the dice button when customising your lure, you’ll throw out a random fishing bob every single time.
Personally, I just stick with the rubber ducky because it’s adorable, but to each their own.
