Have you ever wanted your dungeon-crawling adventures in Stardew Valley to feel a little more… random? Maybe you’ve even wanted to experience the threat of permanent death while you battle through a series of procedurally generated levels? Man, if only there was a name for this genre of game…
Anyway, if that all sounds up your street, then I have a neat-looking mod to show you for Stardew Valley that you can download right this second.
I love a good rougelike. Slay the Spire, Ball x Pit, Balatro, Vampire Survivors– if you put the “roguelike” tag on your game on Steam, I’ve probably already played it.
That being said, I do think that devs are perhaps a bit too obsessed with turning everything into a rougelike these days. I think the genre has become so popular that a lot of indie devs are seeing the opportunity to make a game that will be popular, instead of, y’know… having an original idea.

So, when I first saw a mod titled Stardew Valley - Roguelike over on Nexus Mods, I’ll admit that my expectations were at rock bottom.
However, after watching a few videos of this one in action, I gotta admit that I judged it far too harshly, because this mod genuinely looks like a lot of fun.

Stardew Valley - Roguelike is a mod from Nexus Mod author TheTrain2000, who was assisted by modders TheHaboo and Therm. As the name implies, the mod transforms the cave diving sections in Stardew Valley into a combat-focused, ever-shifting roguelike experience.
The aim of the game is to fight through the mines as quickly as humanly possible, so that you can upload your time to the built-in online leaderboards once you’re finished.
There is one small issue with the mod, though: it doesn’t work with the most recent version of Stardew Valley.
As several of the most recent commenters over on Nexus Mods have pointed out, the mod isn’t compatible with the 1.6 update for Stardew Valley (as it hasn’t been updated since October 2023).
There is a workaround, however. It’s more than possible to downgrade your version of Stardew Valley. If you head over to the “Betas” section by right-clicking on Stardew Valley in Steam, you’ll be able to downgrade to an earlier version of the game, and the mod should work as intended.
Hopefully, the mod author updates this one once ConcernedApe rolls out the 1.7 update for Stardew Valley, whenever it comes out.
