Disney just announced that six new Star Wars films are on the way, and it kinda seems like nobody bloody cares.

The Star Wars Celebration event kicked off last night in Japan, bringing a whole boatload of announcements and reveals along with it.

Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars film starring Ryan Gosling got a title and a release date. A Darth Maul animated series titled Maul: Shadow Lord was announced. GAMINGBible’s own Sam Cawley even got to talk to Pedro Pascal himself about all things The Mandalorian & Grogu-related (totally not jealous at all).

Alongside all this, we also got an update on some Star Wars projects we kind of assumed were dead in the water.

As revealed by the official Star Wars Twitter account, six Star Wars films are still being made… even though some of these were announced over six years ago at this point.

“Star Wars films by James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and a new trilogy by Simon Kinberg are in ongoing development,” stated @starwars on Twitter.

And, um… look, I know Twitter is a real negative place at the best of times, but I don’t think a single person in the comments actually gives a hoot.

“Are they though? Or are they going to be cancelled all the rest?” commented user @Crazy_Bub.

“What about X-Men Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix made you think Simon Kinberg should ever be near a script again?” replied user @quipquest.

I definitely understand why the response here feels so mild and dejected. It feels like more Star Wars projects have been cancelled than actually developed in any way over the past five years.

There was Kevin Feige's film, Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron film (although maybe that's still a thing?), David Benioff & D.B. Weiss’ cancelled trilogy, Damon Lindelof's cancelled Rey film... the list really does just keep going.

Personally, I’ll start getting excited for these when I actually see a trailer. Until then, they basically do not actually exist in my mind.
