Star Wars officially announces new Boba Fett series

A new target emerges

Star Wars’ most famous bounty hunter, Boba Fett, is officially returning for a brand new series.

It’s the world of comic books where he’ll be surfacing next, as Star Wars: Boba Fett - Black, White, & Red has been announced.

Lucasfilm has partnered with Marvel Comics for the miniseries, with Issue #1 set to land this coming fall/autumn.

It’ll feature cover art by Alex Maleev with variant covers by Josemaria Casanovas and Leinil Francis Yu.

The series is set to run for four issues, with the first being written by Benjamin Percy featuring interior art by Chris Allen.

You may be familiar with the pre-existing series Star Wars: Darth Maul - Black, White & Red and Star Wars: Darth Vader - Black, White, & Red.

This Boba Fett iteration will follow the same formula, expanding on the character’s lore in a standalone tale.

In the first issue, Fett will find himself “tangling with imperials and rogues”.

“I set him up with a merc mission that goes wrong in a hundred different ways — as he's caught between the demands of the Empire and a rogue faction of the Rebellion,” writer Percy shared via StarWars.com.

“We're setting a major sequence in a lava system that Fett has to navigate to hunt down the best thief in the galaxy. I'm so lucky to join forces with artist Chris Allen, who brings his eye for dynamic action, wild layouts, and granular detail to this twisty, turny story that will keep you guessing until the end.”

Subtitled ‘The Impossible Job’, the issue’s synopsis reads as follows: “BOBA FETT finds himself trapped in a situation he seemingly can’t get out of! The EMPIRE and an extreme REBEL faction are after the same bounty! Fett needs to track down a deadly individual who has played both sides, and — to make things even more impossible — his target is hiding out in a volatile volcanic system!”

It sounds as if we’re very much in safe hands, as Percy is a huge Star Wars fan.

“I'm a Star Wars nerd. I've seen the movies a million times, read the novels and the comics, and watched the shows,” he said.

“As a five-year-old, I rocked the Episode IV bedspread and as a college student, I hung the Tom Jung poster on the wall of my dorm. I've been dreaming about that universe for a long time. So, I'm thrilled to put a small mark on the franchise.”

As I said, Issue #1 will launch in comic book stores this fall/autumn, although exact release dates aren’t yet available.
