Star Wars Genesis Is the Best Game Experience Out There, and It’s Free

To infinity and beyond! Wait, sorry.

There are plenty of official Star Wars games that really hit the mark for what they were trying to do.

Whether it be the immense action sequences of a game like Force Unleashed, or the fast-paced multiplayer gameplay of Battlefront, there's a little something out there for everyone. That said, one of the most exciting looking Star Wars games of the last decade is currently under development, and it's not technically a game in its own right at all.

Star Wars Genesis is a total conversion for Starfield that collates a bunch of impressive Star Wars mods into one collection, turning the game into arguably the deepest RPG tied to the franchise that we've ever seen.

Simply calling it a modlist feels like the understatement of the century, as the official website notes, saying: "This is not your typical modlist that combines every mod out there into a jumbled mess and calls it a day."

"Countless mods and features within this modlist such as Coruscant, the Yuuzhan Vong Main Story, HUD, props, music, etc are made by me to work alongside other Star Wars mods made by other authors. Many of its features, such as new enemy factions, bosses, unique locations, and original quest content, are exclusive to Genesis and cannot be found anywhere else."

The really cool thing about Genesis as an experience (as recently noted by Kotaku), is the amount of player choice that it offers players. You can go full Han Solo and toe the line between morally good and criminality, or go fully evil and serve the Empire to achieve its goals.

A Look Between the Trilogies

Star Wars Genesis takes place roughly ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and the story is a pretty epic one. Though it isn't considered canon for obvious reasons, the mod author is confident that fans will like the story even more than other recent official Star Wars titles, as they pointed out in their interview with Kotaku.

“Is it canon? No. Is it better than Star Wars Outlaws or the Jedi Survivor series story-wise? Hell yes,” author DeityVengy said.

The download is available right now for free and it's well worth jumping into if Star Wars is your thing. The only minor caveat to be aware of is that you will need a pretty beefy PC to get it to run in a satisfying way, with the official webpage for the project recommending an RTX 4090 card.
