The Game Awards has been and gone for another year, with the dust now settling on what was another bumper night for game announcements, as well as the developers we were there to honour for their work.
The big winner on the night was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the stunning RPG from Sandfall Interactive, which managed to take home a record nine awards, including the coveted Game of the Year nod.
Outside of that, we got confirmation of two new games in the Tomb Raider series, as well as a new Divinity release from Larian Studios, only this time without the Original Sin portion of the titling.
Star Wars fans also went home very happy with confirmation of hyper-realistic looking pod racing game Star Wars: Galactic Racer, as well as a massively ambitious new RPG in Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic.

After being shown our first glimpse of the latter, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier claimed that the game is optimistically going to release all the way in 2030, which isn't exactly good news for us players.
Fortunately, it seems that isn't going to be the case, as the game's director confirms that we should absolutely see the game before then.

Fate of the Old Republic Director Confirms Pre-2030 Release
Over on his own social media profile, game director Casey Hudson shared the following brief statement in response to Schreier's claim, "Don’t worry about the ‘not till 2030’ rumors. Game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger!”
Older players amongst you might remember Hudson as the game director on beloved RPG Knights of the Old Republic. The studio he is heading up was only founded by himself and his partners at some point this year, so a big part of the game's announcement was likely an initial effort to flesh out their numbers as development really begins.
So what exactly is the game going to be? Well, at the moment details are pretty thin on the ground, with the limited trailer and the game's title all we really have to go on.
The title suggests that we'll be playing somewhere in the Old Republic period, which is easily one of the most exciting times in Star Wars canon. Both the Jedi and Sith were considerably more powerful than their mainline movie versions, and they do some pretty spectacular stuff that we will hopefully get to see.
In any case, it's definitely an exciting project to keep an eye on. Let's hope that Hudson can deliver on his promise and get the game in our hands by 2029.
