Two fandoms are coming together in a big way next month, and it’s all thanks to Destiny.

Although Destiny 2’s player count has waned in recent years when compared to its all-time peak of 316,750 concurrent players (as per SteamDB), there are still thousands playing this sci-fi MMO.

Given its setting, it’s surprising that Destiny hasn’t teamed up with Star Wars before.

The official Destiny 2 X account revealed that Star Wars has inspired its upcoming Destiny 2: Heresy.

Look how far Destiny 2 has come since its PlayStation 4 trailer reveal. Love it or hate it, it's here to stay!

What is more, the collaboration will become available from 4 February.

“Conquer the galaxy with new armour ornaments, accessories, emotes, and finishers inspired by StarWars,” the post reads.

Generally speaking, the feedback is enormously positive, with many gamers prepared to dive back into the game.

Social media user @7BitBrian admitted as much, saying, “Look, I realise this is just nostalgia marketing at its finest, but it's probably gonna work on me. Damnit, guess I'm coming back to Destiny for a bit.”

“OMG OMG OMG TAKE MY MONEY,” @TriiGz commented, alongside the gif of Futurama’s Fry pulling a wad of cash out of his jacket pocket.

While many are celebrating this surprise announcement, there are some who believe it “reeks of desperation” on Bungie’s part.

“Zero attempt to even try to make that style work within Destiny, just straight up copy n paste,” argued @EndymionYT, which seems to be the main gripe from those against this collab.

Sometimes, it isn’t about everything fitting neatly – it’s about being able to don a Stormtrooper outfit and have a jolly good time with friends.

Regardless of how you personally feel about Heresy, it’ll soon be here, with countless players returning to Destiny 2 to celebrate its arrival.
