Star Wars Finally Confirms One Of The Sequel Trilogy's Biggest Mysteries

A new novel, Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith, is set to delve into a largely unexplored area

The Star Wars sequel trilogy was a story of two halves. It offered up plenty of interesting questions, only to let us down with largely disappointing answers. One of those mysteries regarded Rey’s origins.

The theories were gloriously juicy as fans debated whether Rey was a Solo, Kenobi or Palpatine. The truth is, Rey’s parents were simply two “filthy junk traders” - but we did learn in The Rise of Skywalker that Rey was also Palpatine’s granddaughter after her father became involved in a cloning experiment. It was a slightly weird reveal, but new information has come to light on the whole strange affair.

We'll soon be delving into another unexplored Star Wars era when Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts on Disney+. Take a look at the latest trailer below.

An upcoming Star Wars novel titled Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith is set to delve into Rey’s parentage. Set between the original and the sequel trilogy, the novel has confirmed the names of Rey’s parents as Dathan and Miramir - and it looks like it’ll recount the events that led up to Rey’s abandonment.

The official synopsis reads: "The Empire is dead. Nearly two decades after the Battle of Endor, the tattered remnants of Palpatine's forces have fled to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. But for the heroes of the New Republic, danger and loss are ever-present companions, even in this newly forged era of peace. [...] Ochi of Bestoon, a Sith assassin [is] tasked with kidnapping a young girl [...] He must complete a final mission: Return to Exegol with the key to the Sith's glorious rebirth - Rey, the granddaughter of Darth Sidious himself.”

The full synopsis essentially unveils the entire plot, which is an odd choice - but if reading isn’t your thing, I guess Star Wars has you covered. Either way, the novel certainly seems set to delve into how Dathan came to be involved in the cloning experiments and, of course, the implications that has for Rey. It sounds like a well-thought out story. I can’t say the same for the sequel trilogy.
