The cannibal survival horror game Sons of the Forest has sold two million copies within its first 24 hours of launch. That’s a lot of hungry gamers.

Developed by Endnight Games, the sequel to 2014's The Forest, Sons of the Forest arrived on Steam early access on 23 February and is already proving to be a massive success for survivalist fans. In the game, players take control of a character that has unfortunately found themselves stranded on an island inhabited by blood-thirsty cannibals. In order to survive, not only will players be required to fight off the cannibals, but also gather resources to build weapons, construct buildings and of course eat (preferably of the non-human variety).

Speaking of horror, who's excited for Resident Evil 4 Remake? Take a look at the latest gameplay below.

While fans of The Forest will be treading on familiar ground in the sequel, the island map is said to be four times bigger than its predecessor and players can now interact with friendly NPCs. What’s more, Sons of the Forest supports up to eight-player co-op as well as solo gameplay.

So it’s fair to say that fans will have a lot to appreciate in the highly anticipated sequel and that certainly seems to be the case according to recent sales figures. As reported by IGN, Sons of the Forest sold over two million PC Steam early access copies in just 24 hours. “Thanks to those who have joined us in our Early Access journey into ‘Sons Of The Forest’,” tweeted the developer. “We have sold over two million copies in the first 24 hours, and are very excited for what we have in store for players in the coming weeks.”

A further indication of just how popular Sons of the Forest is already proving to be, figures on SteamDB make for positive reading. At the time of writing, the open-world survival horror game has a concurrent all-time peak of 414,257. Moreover, there are currently 196,573 players exploring the cannibalistic island.

Sons of the Forest is currently only available on PC. However, with its predecessor releasing on PC as well as PS4, it's likely that the sequel will hopefully come to consoles, one day.
