‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2’ Gets Amazing Final Trailer

The final trailer for ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2’ just dropped, and it's looking super promising.

I think we can all agree that the first Sonic movie was better than it had any right to be, or certainly, it was a lot better than anyone could have possibly expected when we first saw it. That initial Sonic design still haunts my dreams as a terrifying, speedy sleep-paralysis demon sometimes.

The sequel was already shaping up to be even better, with the incredible casting choice of Idris Elba as Knuckles, and Tails being voiced by his original voice actor, Colleen O’Shaughnessey. Now, we just got the final trailer ahead of the movie's release in cinemas on 1 April in the UK (hopefully it’s not an elaborate April fools joke), and it’s looking amazing. Take a look for yourself below.

The plot is set to follow Sonic and Tails’ adventure to track down the Master Emerald before Eggman and his new, bright red echidna buddy Knuckles do. It’s not exactly a groundbreaking story, but it’s almost certainly going to be fun.

As well as the stellar lineup of new faces (or voices, I suppose), the returning cast is also really solid. Ben Schwartz is back as Sonic, and James Marsden is still the local town sheriff Tom Wachowski, but most importantly, Jim Carrey is making his grand return as Eggman, which is personally all I needed to know to sell me on watching it.

All the marketing for this movie is just a delight for any Sonic fan. The official poster has almost perfectly recreated the box art for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the good ol’ Sega Genesis - take a look at the comparison below (first spotted by ScreenRant). That, combined with various little Easter eggs in the trailer (note that Green Hill Zone ringtone at the start, and also the ring sound effect right at the end), definitely suggests that there’ll be lots of references for us to spot in the full movie.

For UK-based readers, it’s just over two weeks to go until Sonic 2 comes speeding onto our screens, but US audiences will have to wait until 8 April. That keeps happening lately, doesn’t it? Either way, it’s right around the corner, and it looks like we won’t want to miss it.
