How we experience games can vary from person to person.

Some players look only for fun gameplay with the game’s story playing second fiddle. On the other hand, other players may yearn for engaging stories and equally interesting characters to meet along the way.

When it comes to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, it is a mixture of both which is unsurprising considering that the 2011 Bethesda RPG is widely regarded as a modern-day classic which is still enjoyed by millions of fans to this day.

The land of Skyrim is full to the brim with interesting characters: some of which will become long-term companions whilst others you will only run into briefly throughout various quests.

Characters Sybille Stentor and Hert are two such characters.

Sybille can be encountered as the Court Wizard of the Blue Palace in Solitude whilst Hert lives a quiet life working at the Half-Moon with her husband.

However, what not many players will realise is that both are vampires.

Serving the Jarls of Solitude for many years, Sybille is truly a secondary character and only becomes relevant when accepting the quest to clear out a vampire lair.

However, as for Hert, players soon discover that both her and her husbands are vampires who feed off travelers who pass through their mill in order to remain undiscovered in the sunlight.

Upon their death, both characters drop Vampire Dust and they are also both unaffected by the Detect Life Spell which is how many players discovered their true identities.

Well, that and their glowing eyes.

However, it seems as though this key piece of lore was a surprise to some fans and one post over on r/skyrim proves just that.

“If I’m not mistaken, these are vampires right??” User PabloEskyBrahhh asked alongside screenshots of both Sybille and Hert.

In the top comment, the user explains, “Yes, Sybille Stentor and Hert are vampires. Detect Life/Dead spell really gives it away along with the eyes.

“There are some other clues, too, that are fun to pick up on.

Sybille sends the Dragonborn to go hunt down a group of vampires, calls them nasty creatures, and you can ask her why she looks so young.

And with Hert, go behind her house and look around. Seems she’s been doing a little feeding.”

This is just another example of Bethesda’s attention to detail as the true identity of the pair can go unnoticed by casual players.

Hopefully, the same levels will be reached when The Elder Scrolls VI is eventually, and hopefully, released.
