Skyrim mod completely overhauls and modernises the game

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the gift that keeps on giving, especially when it comes to its community of talented modders.

Skyrim gives players the choice of playing the game in either a first-person or third-person perspective. Personally, I often favour the first-person perspective for a more immersive experience. As reported by PCGamesN, one mod that aims to make Skyrim an even more immersive experience is the Comprehensive First-Person Animation Overhaul (CFPAO).

Take a look at some of our favourite Skyrim wins and fails below.

Created by PolarRobotFrog, they say that the mod “adds thousands (yes, I checked and it is actually in the thousands) of first-person animations that overwrite the janky and outdated vanilla ones." It also "includes unique animations depending on weapon type (so axes, maces, and daggers are no longer used like swords)," plus it "does not require Nemesis or FNIS to work.”

PolarRobotFrog explained that “this mod replaces almost every single vanilla animation from the first-person perspective, and even adds some unique ones depending on what weapon or school of magic you’re using.” In a nutshell, the CFPAO mod will polish up the animations in Skyrim to make melee and ranged combat, as well as those more inclined to use the dark arts of wizardry, more flush than ever before.

What’s more, the modder has even improved the unarmed combat for the likes of the Khajiit character class. However, at the time of writing, PolarRobotFrog was unable to improve sneak animations due to some unexpected bugs. Hopefully, those issues will be ironed out at a later date.

Moreover, the left shield block as well as bashing animations have currently been left untouched as the modder “couldn’t think of any ways to animate the shield any differently than vanilla.”

In related Elder Scrolls news, Skyrim mods recently topped 100 million monthly downloads, 12 years after the game initially launched. At this point, it wouldn't surprise us if modders are still working Skyrim wonders in ten more years from now.
