The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim just wouldn’t be the same without the dragons. For starters, it’d have a completely different story but they serve a greater purpose than that.
Despite their enormous size, you’d never truly know when one was going to pop up. You’d often be wandering through the mountains only to hear a loud crash behind you, then boom, you’re in a fight for your life.
This one player’s encounter though, was a little different. The dragon wasn’t trying to kill them but instead everyone’s favourite interruptive NPC Meridia…
All Skyrim players will be familiar with Meridia and her blasted beacon. This isn’t a side quest you can easily ignore as when you pick up the trinket, you’re whisked into the sky so the goddess can talk your ear off.
This is what happened to Skyrim player IroquoisPliskin_LJG, but while Meridia was giving her speech, something bizarre happened: a dragon landed next to them, in the sky.

The video attached to IroquoisPliskin_LJG’s Reddit thread showed the dragon standing on air before snapping at the glowing orb representing Meridia. What’s even more surprising is that the orb actually fought back.
IroquoisPliskin_LJG couldn’t move during this ordeal as you’re frozen in place, so they got to simply sit back and watch as these two titans battled it out in the air.
Despite not having hands or a body at all, for that matter, Meridia somehow managed to put up a good fight, though the video cuts out before a winner is revealed.
It’s one of the strangest encounters we’ve ever seen in Skyrim and the odds of it happening have to be ridiculously high.
Why on Earth the dragon was so aggravated by Meridia’s existence is beyond us, but we’d like to think it embodied all of the hatred and frustration Skyrim players have towards that problematic glowing orb.
Other Skyrim players thought the interaction was hilarious, like Katdemamp, who said, “the fact that it didn't want to fight you but the glowing orb next to you is so funny.”
Rough-Armadillo-God called the encounter “absolute cinema,” adding, “I love this game.”
Finally, Koimi-Nisekona spoke for us all when they said: “The dragon did what we’ve all wanted to do.”
It’s unknown whether dragons will return for The Elder Scrolls VI, but then again, 99% of that game is unknown since Bethesda refuses to talk about it.
Hopefully they do make a comeback though, as while we likely won’t be a Dragonborn in the next game, we’ll miss them dearly.
