The Elder Scrolls VI has been in development for a long time.
Do you know what’s been in development even longer? Skyblivion.
For those who don’t know, Skyblivion is a major project by the volunteer TESRenewal modding group that began life in 2012.
Essentially, the team is seeking to remake the entirety of Oblivion within Skyrim’s Creation Engine, including all of the game’s quests, locations, characters, items, and gameplay features.

That’s hugely ambitious, so you can understand why it’s taken so long given that everyone involved is, after all, a volunteer.
Of course, when this project first arose, no one knew that an official remaster of Oblivion would drop but that doesn’t negate fans’ excitement for Skyblivion.
There’s just something magic about the art direction of Skyblivion that feels modern and yet completely true to Oblivion’s original identity.
The mod is set to be free which is a lovely bonus.

Naturally, you will need to be a PC user in order to enjoy it, plus you’ll require access to both Skyrim: Special Edition and Oblivion as well as all of their DLCs.
After 13 long years, Skyblivion is finally set to release this year although an exact date is yet to be narrowed down.
That being said, the news we’ve all been awaiting could be landing soon.
In an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, Skyblivion’s project lead Kyle’Rebelzize’ Rebel said that the team is inching “closer” to a release date reveal.

"Progress is generally good. Volunteer based projects are always a challenge due to people sometimes dropping out or not having as much time to contribute as in the past," he began.
"To work around that, we try as much as possible to keep the project a bit flexible and change our MVP (minimum viable product) according to the team's capability. I'd say recent developments made us come closer to a potential date announcement, but we will be able to share more about that at a later date,” he continued.
This isn’t necessarily a guarantee that Skyblivion won’t be delayed into early 2026 but honestly, considering how long this mod has been in development, knowing that the project is on the home run feels like a win in itself.
