Resident Evil Requiem fans are hoping that its upcoming free DLC adds this one mode it desperately needs.
One of the standout games of this year is Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in Capcom’s popular survival horror series that takes us back to Raccoon City, roughly 30 years after the T-Virus outbreak. In it, we play as the returning Leon S. Kennedy and a brand new character to the series, Grace Ashcroft.
Without giving away spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem, like pretty much all games in the series, you can restart the game for a new run with access to all the weapons you’ve unlocked in a previous playthrough. However, unlike previous titles, Resident Evil Requiem doesn't have a traditional New Game Plus with the way the weapons are released to you varying this time around.
In most New Game Plus modes, any weapons you’ve unlocked in a previous playthrough will be available in the next immediately. Essentially, the player becomes more OP with each campaign completion, and it’s a lot of fun.

In Resident Evil Requiem, weapons you’ve unlocked aren't available from the get-go or even placed conveniently in your Inventory Box on the next run. Instead, you buy weapons with points you’ve acquired (which do carry over) to be used on your current run. Then it's the same process for the next.
I assume Capcom has done this to stop players from becoming too OP and blasting through the game with ease on the hardest difficulties. So, it would be nice if Capcom would add a proper New Game Plus alongside its already existing new take on the mode. After all, variety is the spice of life and whatnot.
“They'd better add a regular New Game Plus with the next update,” demanded Redditor Teasing-Ax. “I’m excited for whatever DLC they have, but if it doesn’t have New Game Plus, I’m gonna delete my data and restart from scratch.”
“It’s just baffling that such a basic feature wasn’t already in the game to begin with,” replied TammyShehole.
“A part of me thinks the new update is actually a randomiser mode, except for a few key progression items,” replied Responsible_Trade383.
In case you didn't know, a randomiser mode in the Resident Evil series basically places all key items in random places, different from where they’re found on a standard playthrough. For example, the red valve in the East Office (1F) of the RPD in the RE2 remake would be found in a totally new place with randomiser.
“It also needs a difficulty between normal and insanity. Normal was kind of too easy, Insanity is too hard unless you use unlimited ammo,” suggested ksudude87.
At this time, Capcom hasn't announced when the free DLC will be released; all we know is that it’s arriving at some point very soon. However, recent rumours claim that it might drop as early as next week.
We also don't know what the free DLC will be, but along with a proper New Game Plus, a returning Mercenaries mode would no doubt be a very popular choice amongst Resident Evil Requiem fans.
“As a horror game in its own right, Resident Evil Requiem is a very solid nine out of ten, but as a passionate fan of the series, it earns an additional bonus point thanks to the attention to detail and craft that’s gone into every pore of this game,” I said in my review.
Resident Evil Requiem is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
