Resident Evil 9 was definitely teased during the recent Resident Evil 4 anniversary video, according to sources.
In case you missed it, Resident Evil 4 recently hit a new milestone in sales and Capcom felt the need to celebrate the win with a charming video of the game’s enemies in party hats, with a message for fans at the end.
It was very cute, which isn’t something I thought I’d ever say about Resident Evil 4 but here we are.
While fans congratulated the game on its win, many felt it was also a subtle tease for Resident Evil 9, as some signposts at the end seemingly spelled out IX, the roman numeral for nine.

Many dismissed it as coincidence but Resident Evil leaker AestheticGamer says otherwise, recently telling fans on X, “Capcom's not stupid and they know the RE fanbase is clamouring for RE9 news. I believe it was a very intentional tongue-in-cheek inclusion as they're getting ready to reveal RE9 in the not-so-distant future.”
They went on to provide examples of when Capcom has done a similar cheeky bit of marketing, like an update to the Resident Evil 2 remake demo that added Nemesis roaring in the background.
Take it with a pinch of salt, of course, but you’d think Capcom would know better than to stick an obvious IX in a Resident Evil video, knowing that fans will take it as a teaser for Resident Evil 9.
With events like Summer Game Fest and Gamescom 2025 on the way, there’s a solid chance we’ll get a teaser, maybe even a gameplay trailer, for the next Resident Evil game.

All we can do now is wait and see if we’re right, but in the meantime, congratulations to Resident Evil 4 for hitting a new sales milestone, and let’s hope Resident Evil 9 is just as successful.
