Red Dead Redemption remake teaser is miles better than the remaster

The Red Dead Redemption remake that could have been!

Red Dead Redemption became one of the best games of its generation when it was released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.

Never before had players been able to live the fantasy Wild West life until Rockstar Games’ classic western came our way. Sure, we had the linear Red Dead Revolver in 2004 as well as the quite decent Gun published by Activision in 2005, but neither were to the level of Red Dead Redemption starring our beloved John Marston.

Check out the Red Dead Redemption trailer below!

Following endless rumours, Red Dead Redemption was released once more this year. However, rather than the remake or remaster that had been speculated, this was pretty much a straight-up port for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch with no major improvements other than being bundled with the Undead Nightmare expansion, but that’s nothing a Game of the Year Edition hadn't already done.

To be fair to Rockstar Games, it did recently release a 60fps update for the Red Dead Redemption port, but that was only compatible when playing on PlayStation 5. Though, I suppose it’s better than a poke in the eye with a thorny stick.

Many fans are disappointed that we never got the rumoured remake. After all, the original Red Dead Redemption being powered by RDR2’s Rage Engine would have been awesome and well worth the value of a full-price game. Of course, that was not to be. So a fan has taken matters into their own hands to give us a taste of what Red Dead Redemption might have looked like running on Rockstar Games’ Rage Engine.

Now, before we proceed, please be advised that the gameplay clip featured in the link below is a remake of the prologue of the original game. Meaning that there are major spoilers ahead. That being said, Red Dead Redemption was released 13 years ago at the time of writing. The remake in question is from Redditor Devilbringer07. I’ll say no more about the clip, just in case a spoiler is revealed.

Red Dead Redemption is available now on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
