Although Red Dead Redemption 3 may be a few years away, it doesn’t mean fans can’t speculate as to what the next entry may entail.
That is exactly what has been taking place over on r/reddeadredemption when one poster asked: “Why RDR3 being a sequel to RDR1 is a terrible idea. Why would you set a game when the Wild West is already over and almost all the characters of RDR1 and 2 are gone?”

With Red Dead Redemption first being released in 2010 and Red Dead Redemption 2 following in 2018, it could be assumed that a third entry will not be expected until at least 2026. Not only that but with Rockstar Games currently hard at work with Grand Theft Auto 6, there may be an even bigger delay.

However, fans of the cowboy-inspired titles are more than happy to discuss ideas for the next instalment and it seems as though a lot of them would be happy to not only see a brand new setting but also some new faces.
One person said: “I think RDR3 should be completely unrelated to any characters we've known thus far.”
Another added to this by saying: “Yeah, and be set in the prime of the Wild West. Making it a prequel to RDR2 with the Van Der Linde gang sounds appealing at first, but we already know the fates of the gang, who lives, who dies, and when. There would only be a few characters we'd wonder about.”
As a result, it seems as though many fans would like to see the story based around a rival gang who operated around the same time as the Van der Linde gang. Others would like to see John Marston’s son, Jack take on the titular role now he has grown up.

It remains to be seen which direction Rockstar will go in but with the Red Dead series boasting hordes of fans, there is no doubt that we will all turn up regardless.
