It’s been pretty clear from spending some time on the internet over the last few weeks that demand for a Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster or new-gen port is at an all-time high.
In case you missed the news, Rockstar Games recently released a port of Red Dead Redemption for current gen consoles, which includes Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The upgrade features better visuals, improved performance, and various other features to give it a next-gen feel.
For a long time, Red Dead Redemption was only ever available on Xbox 360 and PS3, so it’s a genuine marvel to see the game be widely available on many more platforms 15 years after its original release.

What’s more, it’s got people in the mood to replay Red Dead Redemption 2 as well. However, there is still the issue of it not having native Xbox Series X/S or PS5 versions.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was released for Xbox One and PS4 back in 2018, and got a PC port in 2019. Of the three versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 though, only the PC port can play it at 60fps, which leaves console players playing it at 30fps.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Needs a New-Gen Version
Native Xbox Series X/S and PS5 upgrades would introduce higher framerates to the console versions of Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as other features such as faster loading times and better resolutions.
But despite rumours suggesting otherwise, Rockstar Games has not confirmed new-gen ports of the game just yet.
And it seems like fans are getting a little sick of the wait.
“I been hearing rumors about a 60fps RDR2 for the past five years,” reads one comment on the PS5 Reddit page.
“It kind of bugs me that 60 FPS for RDR2 is more or less a f***ing frame cap they can flick off at any time, but instead they’re choosing to keep us on the hook so they can charge us to double dip,” reads another comment.
I ought to point out here that’s not how game development works. Sometimes increasing the framerate can result in weird bugs and other issues, and it may not be as simple as flicking a switch. I see their point, though.
I feel like it’s still coming, we just have to be patient.
I imagine Rockstar sees it as less of a priority compared to some of its other ongoing projects, most notably Grand Theft Auto VI which is out next November.
