Red Dead Redemption 2's Rarest Event is Almost Impossible to See

Choo choo!

There are plenty of reasons to love Red Dead Redemption 2. Whether you love cowboys, gunplay, beautiful landscapes or an engrossing story and dialogue, it really does deliver on almost everything, serving as one of the defining achievements in Rockstar's already storied back catalogue.

For me, though, the devil is in the details and there has literally never been another game with as many secrets, tidbits and little curiosities that make its world feel organic and alive. If you aren't aware of the lengths they went to in Red Dead 2, it's pretty wild.

The insides of gun barrels have rifling that you would have no reason to ever see, while the cigarettes in the game sound different when you smoke them, depending on the quality of the tobacco. You can even shoot milk bottle at different levels and watch the liquid drain out of the holes, with the lowest placed hole being the last to stop draining.

As part of its already pretty bonkers offering, there are a lot of world events that occur either randomly, at certain times or in certain places. So much so you can play hundreds of hours without coming across all of them.

Arguably the rarest of all of those is the terrifyingly infrequent appearance of the ghost train (I'm 500 hours down and haven't even seen its smoke in the distance). The train appears seemingly randomly near Rhodes at night, taking the form of a fast moving spectral steam engine.

While it is definitely real, so few people have seen it that only a handful of images exist online, despite the game selling over 100 million units at last count.

So if you fancy a real challenge, stay vigilant and see if you can become one of the very lucky few to have seen it with their own eyes. That's all assuming that it hasn't been delayed due to engineering works.
