Red Dead Redemption 2 players have discovered what may be the “rarest possible death” you can experience in the game.
As an open-world game with plenty of sandbox elements, there’s obviously a lot in Red Dead Redemption 2 that players will miss the first time around, or even after several playthroughs.
Some players have been playing the game non-stop for almost a decade, and still have yet to discover every little detail that Rockstar Games has packed into it.
One Red Dead Redemption 2 player has discovered a rare death that can occur in-game, and have even called it possible “the rarest death in-game”.

The clip as posted to the Red Dead Redemption 2 Reddit page shows Arthur getting into a fight against three thugs. After doing his best to fend them off, the player is grabbed from behind by one thug, and then sucker punched by another, which results in an instant death.
“I've been playing this game for a very very long time and I knew you could get beat up after getting grabbed like this but the fact that you can get 1-shot by knives in this state really surprised me since you rarely ever see NPCs with them,” reads the post.
The player also wonders if this could be replicated online with a friend, referring to the one-shot nature of the knife attack.
Many comments underneath the post share other rare deaths that can occur in Red Dead Redemption 2, proving that there are plenty of uncommon events and encounters that can occur in-game.
“Yeah, the first time I did the robbery to get the Schofield, the woman one shotted me with a knife. Now, she gets an ancient tomahawk to the face when I walk in,” reads one comment.
“My most crazy one was me flipping a stagecoach onto its top and it crushed me,” reads another.
“It has to be one of the rarest. The only thing rarer, that I can think of, would be a random lightning strike. Now I’ll know what to watch out for should this ever happen to me,” reads a third comment.
When another user expressed surprise at being able to die by a lightning strike, the user responded with: “Yup, it’s extremely rare but it’s been known to happen [...] There’s a spot in central Roanoke Ridge, located at the top of the large hill that’s just north of Butcher Creek where the ground is charred from a lightning strike, I’ve heard that if you stand in that spot during a storm that you could be struck; although I haven’t tested it out personally.”
It’s possible that more deaths that are even rarer than this may be in the game, waiting to be discovered by players.
It also begs the question of how encounters like this will be handled in Grand Theft Auto VI.
