If you’re getting a little bored with your standard Red Dead Redemption II experience, then it may be time to branch out and try a little something new in Red Dead Online– just make sure you bring a mic with you, for the full experience.
It might sound somewhat hokey or potentially even cringe-inducing to most of you, but there’s a whole separate world out there for online games that the majority of us have likely never interacted with, and Rockstar Games wants in on the community-driven experiences that players are crafting for themselves.
Both Red Dead Redemption II and Grand Theft Auto V have attracted a relatively large following from folks who enjoy the odd spot of roleplaying (or RP for short).
Although the craze has seemingly died down somewhat over the last year or so, RP servers were at the height of their popularity during the height of COVID.

Obviously GTA Online eclipses Red Dead Online in this respect, as it does in general, but there is an extremely dedicated group of fans who call Red Dead Redemption II their home (probably due to their fascination with the wild, wild West).
The amount of RP-dedicated servers that started popping up in both games even caught the attention of Rockstar Games themselves back in 2023, as they announced that Cfx.re (who are responsible for creating the biggest GTA V and RDR II RP servers, FiveM and RedM) had become an official part of the company.
However, while the amount of folks jumping into roleplay servers seems to have diminished recently, content surrounding Red Dead Online RP seems to be flourishing… but potentially not for the correct reasons.
TikTok creator elijahwordly has been growing in popularity over the past few months due to his Red Dead Online RP antics, although his videos are geared towards making fun of those who engage in RDO roleplay.

His specific brand of “ragebaiting” and “trolling” videos (christ, I feel like I’m back in 2012 by unironically using those words) have garnered millions of views on social media, with one in particular earning upwards of 8.8 million views.
Personally, I think it’s a bit of a pathetic hobby. To clarify, I’m referring to the act of targeting roleplayers who are just trying to have some silly fun, not the roleplayers themselves.
Ultimately, RPing is an inoffensive, harmless source of joy for these people, so going out of your way to target it, simply because it generates views, seems far more cringe to me than the act of roleplaying ever will.
Not entirely sure what’s more sad, honestly; the loser making the videos, or the basement dwellers getting enjoyment out of them. Maybe the people watching this content could try roleplaying as something other than a miserable little ghoul in the real world.
